Can Wedding Bands Be Made Bigger?

How Wedding Bands Should Fit

Wedding bands come in different sizes and fit depending on the wearer’s finger.      You should not settle for something uncomfortable to wear when you have the option to      find the perfect wedding band fit for you. Any signs of being too loose, tight, or uncomfortable      indicate a need for resizing. 

When should you consider resizing your wedding bands? 

Enlarge the ring if it is:

• Too snug
• Cannot fit beyond knuckles 

Reduce the size if it:

• Rotates around the finger
• Slips off without resistance  

Ring Stretching of Wedding Bands for Women and Men

Ring stretching is a feasible option for expanding the metal of wedding bands,      especially those made of softer metals like silver or gold wedding bands. 

Sizing Beads

If you don’t want your wedding band to lose its strength, this is another option for resizing. Instead of stretching the entire ring, we can add tiny metal balls, like little beads, to the inside of your ring and give it a small adjustment. 

If your ring is too big and you want it to fit more snugly, we can add these beads. On the other hand, if your ring is a bit tight, we can take the beads off to make it larger. 

Adding a Ring Guard

A ring guard is a thin piece of metal that can be placed around the inside of the ring band. Adding a ring guard can create a tighter fit or be removed for more delicate bands to make the ring larger.  

However, note that prolonged use of sizing assistants or ring guards is discouraged. While this temporary solution offers a quick fix, it can damage the ring’s integrity over time and may lead to long-term issues. 

Ring Shank Replacement

Instead of adding small adjustments or guards with ring shank replacement, we’ll swap out the entire bottom part of your ring for a new foundation. 

If your ring needs to be much larger, we can remove the old band and put on a new, bigger one. 

This method is more expensive than other resizing options as it’s a more involved process, but it’s necessary when you have a complex or intricate design on your ring. 

Ring Sizer

It is a small metal piece placed inside the ring band to adjust size. When added, it helps create a tighter fit and can be removed to make the ring larger. 

As a customizable solution for your wedding band, the ring sizer is a thin insert that modifies the inner circumference. 

It is almost similar to the ring guard, but the difference lies in their placement: a ring sizer goes inside the ring band, while a ring guard is positioned around the outside.  

Other Considerations for Resizing Wedding Bands:

1. Not all rings can be resized. 

Some rings made of tough materials like tungsten and titanium are challenging to resize. 

Other rings with designs around the band (like eternity bands) might not be resizable as specific intricate or continuous designs may limit the resizing options. 

Rings made of workable metals like silver, platinum, or gold wedding bands are suitable for resizing, especially those with minimal to no stone settings.

Secondly, if your ring has a complex design, it might require more skill and effort, impacting the overall cost. 

4. Removing Your Ring When Necessary

There are times when you should take off your wedding ring. If you’re doing activities that make your fingers swell, it’s a good idea to remove the ring. This prevents any discomfort and helps avoid potential damage to the ring.  

If your fingers feel a bit swollen or are doing something where your ring might get in the way, take it off temporarily to keep your hands and the ring safe. 

5. Get Your Ring Resized Before Major Weight Changes
